NAILS' TALES
This sculpture has had an unusually turbulent life! In 2005, at Camp Randall Stadium, The University of Wisconsin’s football stadium, Lipski created this 50' tall obelisk in the form of a giant limestone block which is eroding into a pile of footballs. It is in fact gel-coated fiberglass, on a limestone base. It was fabricated by The FAST Corp. of Sparta, Wisconsin. The University is Mr. Lipski's alma mater. He received a BA in American History there in 1970. His time there was years of anti-war activism, as chronicled in the wonderful David Maraniss book They Marched into Sunlight, and the movie The War at Home.
In 2019, following several years when the sculpture was derided in the press, the University removed the work and put it in storage. They have promised to work with Lipski to find a new site for the piece on campus. Lipski is optimistic that this will all have a happy ending. READ MORE ABOUT IT HERE!
